Information Window (Info Window or Info Frame)
Information Window shows information about a record - a Person, a Family, the file Header or a shared record.
Info Frame can be called in the following ways:
For a person:
- Double click on the person's frame.
- Click on the person's frame with the right mouse button and choose the "Info" item in the dropdown menu.
- Select the person in the List of persons and press the "Info" button.
For a family:
- Select the family in the List of families and press the "Info" button.
For the file Header:
- Choose "File Header" in the main menu "View".
For a shared record:
- Select the record in the List of shared records and press the "Info" button.
The brief description of the record and its identification number (ID) in square brackets are shown in the window's title bar.
In the top part of the window there is more detailed description (depends on a type of the record).
In the middle part of the window there is the record's data in format, depending on the switch "Show as:"
- "Notes+Links" shows only 2 types of data: Notes (tag NOTE) and Links (tag OBJE).
If there are several notes, they are shown one after another, separated with horizontal lines. If a note is a reference to a Note shared record its text content will be shown.
Links to documents and media files are shown in the dropdown list. The "Show" button opens the chosen document. What software will open it depends on what program in your computer is associated with the document's file extension - ".doc" will be opened in Microsoft Word, ".jpg", ".gif", ".bmp" or ".png" - in the built-in viewer, ".html" or an Internet address - in the system browser, etc.
The button "Images" opens a special photo-browser window that also shows the links (as thumbnails), but only those which are photos and images. Double click on a thumbnail will open the image in the associated program. If the image files are located in the Internet, they are loaded to create the thumbnails (during that time the thumbnails show "Loading...") and are saved in temporary files, so opening the images will not cause loading the files again but the saved copies will be used.
So the view "Notes+Links" is the "basic" view - it shows only the basic elements of the record, those will be interesting to the user in the first place.
- "Tree" shows the structure of the record in the form of a tree of elements (like a tree of directories and files), the description of the selected element above, and its value in the right panel.
If the element is highlighted with red color it means that this is a reference to another record - double clicking on it will open this record in the same Info Window. After that you can return to the previous record with button "Back" - thus it is possible to go through all records linked to each other by references.
The dropdown list "Font" allows to set the bigger size of the font in the Notes area, that is useful function when older people will watch your tree.
If the switch "Always on top" is checked the Info Window will always remain atop of other windows.
