Templates Translator utility
Attention: Before using this utility read "Tools" menu help topic which describes necessary preliminary procedures.
In the Templates Translator utility window, open (menu "File" - "Open") the directory (which you have previously created) that contains copies of the files temps.bin, subs.bin and vals.bin. These files contain record templates that will be loaded into the utility.
In the left bottom part of the utility window there is a dropdown list with record types: Header, Person, Family, etc
Upon choosing a record type the left part of the window will show the record template in the form of a tree of elements. A similar tree of elements is also used in "Advanced Search". The selected element of the tree is shown in the right part of the window string data of the template which is to be translated:
- Label - a short name of the element with which it will appear in the program.
- Definition - a description of the element, a kind of comment field. It is a single line of text, preferably no more than 50-60 characters.
- Help - a more expanded description, the information how to edit the given element. This text can be multi-line and to be of any length. For some elements which are not a subject to change (it is specified "Not editable" in the description of such), help may not be set - it will not appear anywhere since such elements are not edited.
- Some elements have a list of possible Values - each value consists of actual value and optionally the comment to it, divided by an equal-sign. Only the comments can be translated since values are fixed by GEDCOM standard and it is impossible to change them. The comments is not obligatory, they can be omitted. On choosing of a value in the list the comment appears in the text field below - there it can be translated and then saved pressing the button "Save value". The equal sign is not necessary - it will be added automatically. If empty comment is entered it will be removed.
Button "Save template" saves the template.
The opened template files are saved by menu "File" - "Save". The files will be saved in the same temps.bin, subs.bin and vals.bin files - for this reason it is important to work with copies of files - to not spoil already available patterns.
The translated templates are activated after program's restart. How to set language of the program if it differs from language of your operation system see the "Configuration" Dialog.
Menu "Help" - "OS Language" shows the language of OS Windows, installed on you computer.
Some groups of templates appear in different places without change, so such templates are made shared, and it is necessary to translate them only in one place. You will notice it while translating - for example, after translation a group of the templates which are a part of elements of type "event" ("Adoption", "Baptism", etc.) in all "event" templates they will appear already translated. Accordingly, such templates should be translated irrespectively their parental templates since they will be present in different contexts. In the similar way some values of elements are made shared, for example, list of LDS temples. They also can be translated only in one place, in others they will appear already translated.
